About Parish Councils

Parish councils in England form the first tier of local government. They are elected bodies with limited tax raising powers, and are responsible for certain community services in areas known as civil parishes.

Candover Valley’s Parish Councils

There are three parish councils representing the interests of residents in the Candover Valley:  The Candovers Parish Council, representing the interests of residents of Brown and Chilton Candover, and Preston Candover & Nutley Parish Council concerned with the interests of those living in Preston Candover, Nutley, and Axford, and Northington Parish Council looking after the residents of Northington, Swarraton and Totford.

Brown and Chilton Candover and Preston Candover & Nutley are within the local government district of Basingstoke and Deane, and Northington, Swarraton and Totford are within Winchester district.

Borough & County Representation

The communities of Brown and Chilton Candover and Preston Candover are represented on Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council by Mark Ruffell (Upton Grey and the Candovers) and on Hampshire County Council by Mrs Anna McNair Scott (Candovers). Northington is represented on Winchester City Council by three councillors whose details are on the parish council’s website and on Hampshire County Council by Jackie Porter.

 

 

Preston Candover & Nutley PC

Preston Candover, Axford and Nutley Parish Council has eight elected councillors, with six representing Preston, and one each from Axford and Nutley. Further details of the Council’s current activities and policies can be found on the Council’s own website by clicking here.

The Preston Candover parish council now publishes its agendas and the minutes of council meetings on its own website, but archive copies of the minutes of those held in 2018 and the intervening years from 2012 can be accessed below.

Candovers PC
