Coppicing of church hedgerow

Coppicing of church hedgerow

Volunteers from the Hampshire & IOW Wildlife Trust will be helping members of the PCC of St Mary’s, Preston Candover, to coppice the roadside hedgerow for the benefit of local wildlife.

The Trust led work party will be in action on Sunday 13th January and the PCC is seeking the help of other volunteers on that day.

“We want people to know that the hedge will look very different due to its reduction in height and we’d be delighted if the local community would like to get involved,” said Karen Evans-Prosser on behalf of the St Mary’s PCC. “

“Do bring any tools with you that might help such as bowsaws, handsaws etc.  The work party is due to finish at 3pm so you may like to bring lunch if you intend to stay the whole day.  Tea, coffee, squash and biscuits etc will be available to revive those in need.”

Anyone interested in helping should contact Karen on 01256 389216.

Further information on what is planned for the day is set out in the attached brief here. HIWWT Task summary St Marys, Preston Candover

And a HIWWT volunteer registration form can be found here for completion before the event. HIWWT Volunteer Registration Form & Agreement – no references updated Dec 15

If the height of the hedgerow is reduced significantly, perhaps even to the height at which it was maintained in the 1960’s, it will open up the much wider view of St Mary’s church enjoyed by residents and visitors at that time as can be seen on the photograph in the Frith collection here
