People in Hampshire have raised an incredible £976,000 for Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover Hospitals’ “Dig Deep” Campaign during the first three weeks of April!
The Hampshire Medical Fund has been raising money to buy equipment for Winchester, Basingstoke and Andover Hospitals since 1981. This is equipment is normally outside their NHS budgets and it enables these hospitals to perform at an enhanced level for all the communities which they serve.
Prompted by the current crisis the Fund has launched the ‘Dig Deep’ campaign and the community has responded with hundreds of donations coming from £5 to much more.
As a direct result of these donations, The Hampshire Medical Fund have made these funds immediately available to local hospitals and they have been able to order several pieces of equipment which are absolutely key to their battle against COVID – 19. These will be used by frontline staff working on the most critically ill patients coming into Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover Hospitals.
However, Hampshire Hospitals have more seriously ill patients than neighbouring hospital trust organisations and the hospitals’ needs are shifting on a daily basis. Among the equipment purchased is:
1 x MRI Monitoring System for Cardiology and Critical Care – allows ‘stress’ MRI scans to be performed with continual monitoring for critical Cardiac cases. This is not currently possible in Basingstoke, Winchester or Andover hospitals. £41,424.
1 x Transthoracic Echo machine for Acute Cardiology Unit – This machine would allow Andover Hospital to perform cardiac echo scans on Covid-19 patients rather than transfer them to Basingstoke or Winchester hospitals, as the Andover hospital machine has recently broken. £37,000.
4 x Better BiPap equipment for Emergency Patients – This equipment provides lifesaving treatment to patients suffering from respiratory failure. £64,440 (for four).
1 x Ultrasound and Echocardiography Machine for Intensive Care – This machine will play a big part in the evolving COVID19 situation as clinicians have to split stock between infected and non-infected patients. £20,750.
1 x ORSIM Bronchoscopy Simulator for Intensive Care & Anaesthesia – This equipment allows training on negotiating airways in real life scenarios, which will be particularly pertinent with retired clinicians returning to the front-line at this time. £18,000.
We would like to have a discretionary fund to support our frontline Medical Staff as required in consultation with the CEO and CFO of our NHS Trust as they work through these unprecedented times. £tbc
Peter Walsh, Head of Fundraising for the Hampshire Medical Fund expressed his gratitude to those who have given so generously:
“We have been truly humbled by your response to this campaign and give our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you for digging so deep, particularly at this time when huge financial uncertainty is one of the many challenges that we are all facing. Please be assured that you are making a very real difference to our Hampshire Hospitals. This is something that we had only dreamed might be possible when we launched The ‘Dig Deep’ campaign.”
