The Candover Valley Gardening Club was founded in 1974 to encourage, improve and extend members’ knowledge of all branches of horticulture. The Club is open to everyone and new members are always welcome. We are affiliated to the Hampshire Federation of Horticultural Societies.
Activities during the year include a programme of talks and demonstrations, garden visits in summer, both local and further afield, a plant sale, and summer barbecue. Our base is the Village Hall at Preston Candover in the heart of Hampshire’s beautiful Candover Valley a few miles north of Alresford. Indoor meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30pm.
Soils in the area are predominantly chalk and clay giving stark contrasts in drainage. Plants favouring alkaline conditions do well, including geraniums, clematis and other flowering shrubs, such as the viburnums. The presence of flint – Hampshire diamonds – can make digging difficult and can affect the growth of root crops.
Membership is open to everyone with an interest in gardening and gardens.
The annual subscription for 2021/22 is only £12.
You are very welcome to come to one of our meetings at Preston Candover Village Hall before you join. We ask for a donation of £3 for guests and visitors which if you subsequently join will be reflected in a reduced subscription for the year.
If you are interested in doing the club, please contact the Chairman on firstname.lastname@example.org
