Valley churches open for private prayer

Churches in the Candover Valley are now open again but, currently, only for private prayer, and there may be restrictions within the churches in an effort to reduce the risk of spreading covid-19.

But it is hoped that all churches in the Valley will be given permission to hold services again on Sunday, 5 July, or at the latest a week later on 12 July.  There is still some uncertainty until the government makes a further announcement.

However, on the assumption that it may be possible to resume services on 5th July, the Rector, Rev David Chattell, and the Rev Stephen Mourant, Associate Rector, have prepared an outline programme for July.  As it will not be possible to conduct any communions for safety reasons, services will follow the format of Morning Prayer or “similar”.

If weather permits, services may be held outside as it will be possible to sing with less likelihood of infections being transferred. – “We don’t yet know if we will be allowed to sing inside,” said Rev Mourant.
