The Hampshire Medical Fund, which raises money to buy equipment for Hampshire hospitals, has now raised £878,496 through its latest ‘Dig-Deep’ appeal and last Friday (3 April) was able to purchase 2,000 PeRSo Respirators to fully protect NHS frontline medical staff in Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover hospitals. It is expected that the hospital staffs will receive the new equipment as they face the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hampshire’s hospitals will be amongst the first in the UK to be providing staff with these particular respirators.
“The situation in Hampshire Hospitals is constantly evolving; at the time of writing we have more seriously ill patients than our neighbouring organisations and are working extremely hard to prepare for more. The ability to fund equipment today and have it here expediently is crucial. There is little doubt that we are going to need these resources to save lives. This scenario may last some time, the sooner we can scale up for our response the better” said Tim Nedas, Consultant Urologist MB BS FRCS at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust.
